Wheels are turning

It has been an important initiative of this service entity, since its inception in 1982, to support members of the community affected by “unfortunate circumstances.” Examples of unfortunate circumstances might be domestic violence, economic hardship, and illness. We recognize there is the thinnest of lines that separate the fortunate from the unfortunate. We also recognize, in the spirit of community, that we are all truly in it together.

Our cycling team represents the importance of action over inaction. The sole goal of this enterprise is to raise money for worthwhile causes through long distance cycling. The primary benefactor of our efforts has been the Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston.

Through The Jimmy Fund, the fund raising arm of the Dana Farber, we have participated in the Pan Massachusetts Challenge (PMC)—a 2 day/200 mile ride—for many years. In 2000, the PMC introduced a program—Pedal Partners—that formally united a child in treatment at the Dana Farber with a specific team of riders. Since the inception of that program, we are pleased to announce: (1) that all of our pedal partners are alive with most in remission and (2) we have raised over $600,000 as a team.

The riders on our team come from different backgrounds and professions. While our specific motivations might vary, our common ground invariably is the loss of a family member or friend to cancer. More recently, our team has lost one of our own to this terrible disease. In cycling, the goal is to “keep spinning”; we plan to.

We are always on the lookout for interested cyclists, donors, and corporate sponsors.
